Local government in Los Angeles spent about $100,000 to develop an amazing website that could save local residents lots of time and money. Homeowners can simply punch in their address and SolarMap.lacounty.gov uses information in its database such as roof size, pitch and shade from nearby trees to compute the potential for solar power generation.

I don’t live in LA County, so I used the address of Samuel L. Jackson to test the site. Here is a screen cap showing the result. Samuel seems to have a pretty shady roof…

I plugged in Madonna’s address and her estimate was HUGE. She could potentially produce over 16,000 kWh per year and save over $4,000 on her electric bill.

Note: Celebrity addresses were not verified for accuracy but the estimates are for actual existing properties in Los Angeles County.
