Bread usually requires a higher temperature for baking. I haven't tried bread in the particular cooker above, but I would say that adding another reflector would help raise the temp. The free solar cooker plan download above goes over some of these basics. It is fairly simple. Thanks for the question!

We've been on solar power here in CA for a year now and seen our energy bills cut in half. Just can't beat it.

It is amazing to me just how many people are unaware of the energy challenges that we face. Its truly troubling that so many of us either think that there is an unlimited supply of good clean energy, or just do not think about it at all. For others, solar alternatives, as well as many new technologies represent a bright light at the end of a very dark tunnel. I admire anyone, who in either a big or small way, takes their valuable time to educate everyone about their individual opportunities and responsibilities when it comes to our future, and our childrens future. When we look back twenty years from now, it will almost be unbelievable that we were even engaged in this debate. Our energy future is a forgone conclusion, and we all have a role to play in advancing us toward it.

I 'boiled' eggs with this cooker. They were fully hard after a few hours. People with discerning taste said never again

Some plans call for a plastic oven bag to trap hot air around the black cooking container. You might need to live near the equator for this to work consistently.

I also had this idea of a large Pyrex bowl with a thin oval black cooking pot inside. No luck so far, they do not make them big enough. If you are going to cook for 4-6 people you will need something really big. If only there were custom made Pyrex bowls...

Congratulations on your first solar cooker!I run a blog on solar cookers and I am a big fan of these great inventions. We should all start using a solar cooker, we would save energy, save firewood and above all these, we would have a good time cooking in the garden. That adds value to your life, you know?!
